We have our own laboratory in our urological practice in Munich, allowing for a quick diagnosis. This means that as a patient you do not have to wait long for results from the external laboratory but will usually receive them shortly after your appointment in Munich.

Laboratory diagnostics - as in many specialist areas - is also very important in urology for the comprehensive clarification of symptoms and clinical pictures. Urological laboratory diagnostics primarily includes the cytological and bacteriological evaluation of urine, including the testing of suitable antibiotics for the treatment of urinary tract infections, among other things, as well as bacteriological/virological smear diagnostics from the male and female genital region. In addition to routine parameters, we can also carry out specific tumor marker and hormone analyses from the patient's blood.

Analysis

The urine examination is a basic examination that can provide indications of certain diseases of the kidneys and the urinary tract organs (which include the renal pelvis, ureter, bladder and urethra). For this purpose, the urine is prepared in such a way that "pathologically" increased components contained therein can be detected under the microscope. In this preparation - also known as sediment - increased red or white blood cells, inflammatory cells or bacteria, for example, can be detected microscopically in the case of urological diseases. Parameters such as proteins, pH value and sugar content can also be measured from the native urine.

Bacteriological urine analysis is used to determine whether the urine contains pathogens. For this purpose, bacteria is cultivated on various culture media. Through appropriate testing, the sensitivity to common and correspondingly effective antibiotics can also be carried out and a targeted therapy can be initiated.

The spermiogram, in which the semen (ejaculate) is analyzed in detail (ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility, etc.), is used to assess a man's fertility.

The spermiogram evaluation is an important diagnostic tool, especially in cases of unfulfilled desire to have children. It is also used after a vasectomy (cutting of the male vas deferens) to ensure male infertility (sterility).

Hormone analysis Munich

Numerous urological diseases are associated with changes in hormone balance. During hormone analysis, concentrations of the hormones testosterone, LH (luteinizing hormone), FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and PRL (prolactin), among others, are measured.

Testosterone is the most important male sex hormone. The hormone LH ensures the formation of testosterone, but also has an influence on the maturation of the sperm. FSH in turn causes, among other things, the maturation of sperm in the testicular ducts.

Oncology laboratory - tumor markers Munich

The prostate specific antigen, known as PSA, is one of the most important markers for the early detection of prostate cancer. The determination of PSA in our own laboratory provides an immediate assessment of the result.

While the PSA test is a blood test, tumor markers such as NMP22 and BTA in urine are used for the early detection of bladder cancer. Finally, urine cytology is used to detect tumor cells under the microscope.

As part of male cancer screening, we also perform a stool test (Schebo-M2-PK) for the early detection of colon cancer.

However, as already mentioned, laboratory diagnostics is of great importance. Our own laboratory enables a comprehensive and rapid diagnosis.
